
Making Heaters That Actually Survive the Bathroom
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. One minute it’s bone-dry, and the next, you’ve got a sauna with 100% humidity. It’s brutal. The real problem isn’t that a heater fails the moment you turn it on. It’s the slow creep. Moisture seeps into the electrical junctions and quartz seals over weeks, just waiting for the right moment to kill the lamp.
The “Damp-Heat” Struggle
When you put an infrared lamp in a shower ceiling, water vapor finds every single gap. It’s relentless. To stop this from becoming your problem, we try to break the lamps in our lab first. We throw them into high-temp, high-humidity chambers for hundreds of hours. We basically simulate months of steamy showers in a fraction of the time. We’re looking for three big red flags: First, the seals. If the quartz-to-metal seal lets in even a tiny bit of moisture, it hits the halogen gas and—pop—the lamp is gone. Then there’s the connectors. Humidity loves to eat away at metal, causing oxidation. That creates resistance, which makes the terminals overheat. Not a good look. Lastly, we check for leakage. We want to make sure that even when the housing is totally saturated, the electricity stays exactly where it belongs.
The Trade-off
We use heavy-duty coatings and high-grade quartz to fight off that corrosion. But here’s the thing: there’s always a compromise. Thicker coatings and beefier seals can slightly change how the heat hits or make the lamp take an extra second to warm up. It’s a bit of a balancing act.
